Job Requirements/Description

Research Associate in Ultrafast Laser and Terahertz Techniques for Novel Acceleration

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Research Associate (Terahertz Accelerator Science). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge experimental physics research focused on terahertz (THz) accelerator technologies and ultrafast beam manipulation. You will work within the Cockcroft Institute at STFC Daresbury Laboratory, advancing innovative approaches to accelerator science in a dynamic and inclusive research environment.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing ultrafast laser-driven high-field terahertz radiation sources.
  • Conducting experimental research into beam manipulation and plasma-based acceleration techniques.
  • Analysing and interpreting experimental data, supporting the design of research programmes.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners, including UK and international facilities.
  • Contributing to publications, presentations, and supervision of student researchers.
  • We welcome candidates who bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and approaches to their work.

  • Hands-on experience with ultrafast laser systems and experimental techniques.
  • Ability to conduct high-quality independent and collaborative research.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Commitment to safe laboratory practices and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience with THz generation or ultrafast optics.
  • Knowledge of accelerator physics or plasma-based acceleration methods.
  • Experience working with laser or vacuum systems.
  • Track record of publishing in scientific journals.
  • Experience supporting or supervising students.

We value transferable skills and real-world experience as much as formal qualifications.

Our Benefits

Our benefits include:
